Gorgeous scented soy wax candles, inspired locally and available from this weekend for just £15 each with 30 hours burn time. Each with their own unique scent:
▪️Buttermere - Buttermere offers one of the prettiest landscapes in the Lake District. Our candle captures those summer days spent hiking on the fells overlooking the water whilst surrounded by colourful Heather. Heather and citrus notes combine to offer a zesty fragrance that will refresh and enliven your space.
▪️Whinlatter - Whinlatter Forest is England’s only mountain forest. Our candle conjures up memories of woodland walks on rainy days exploring the many trails that wind through this magical place. Pine and fresh rain notes provide a fragrant scent with subtle cedarwood undertones to uplift your surroundings.
▪️Honister - At the summit of Honister pass sits the Honister Slate Mine with its spectacular views into the valleys below. Our candle promotes feelings of warmth and comfort after a hard day’s work in this rugged windswept landscape. A smokey driftwood scent combined with a subtle hint of bluebell help to create a reassuringly cosy atmosphere.
▪️St Bees - The village of St Bees lies on the heritage Cumbrian coast. Our candle takes you to the beach as the tide retreats to reveal a beautiful stretch of sand. Come with us on an envigorating walk along the shoreline. A light salty fragrance partners with a mint and herb freshness to cleanse and energise any environment.
▪️Wasdale - As the sun goes down on the Wasdale valley, the surrounding mountains are often cast in a warm golden light. Our candle evokes memories of balmy summer evenings when the wind has calmed and the landscape glows. The sweetness of honey and amber blend delicately with the fragrance of freshly cut hay to promote comfort and relaxation.
▪️Ennerdale - Ennerdale is known not only for its spectacular scenery but also for its sense of community spirit. We therefore asked for the views of visitors to The Gather in Ennerdale bridge to help us choose the scent for this candle. Enjoy the views that Ennerdale has to offer with a luxurious hit of patchouli and a citrus twist of bergamot that is sure to brighten your day.
▪️Derwent - Derwent Water has some of the Lake District’s most recognisable views. Wake up to a tranquil, misty sunrise with our candle, as you stroll along the lakeshore taking in the fells and the islands as they reflect on the water. A heady floral blend of white jasmine, ylang ylang and neroli calm your senses, encouraging you to relax and reflect.
▪️Windermere - This iconic Lake District location is home to England’s largest natural lake and attracts visitors from all over the world. Our candle takes you on a lakeshore stroll as boats sail by and a fresh breeze blows away the cobwebs. A hit of citrus, including zesty lime and mandarin combine with herb notes of basil and thyme to make this a winning combination.
▪️Coniston - Coniston is a quintessential Lake District village. It also became the backdrop for numerous water speed record attempts. Our candle winds back the clock to an era of mechanics tinkering with their machines in the pursuit of speed. Ignite your senses and savour the freshness of citrus and bergamot with the bold woody notes of fir, cedarwood and vetiver.
▪️Whitehaven - The historic town of Whitehaven has a rich heritage of trade centred around its harbour. Our candle is a tribute to the sailors and merchants and incorporates the scents and spices they encountered on their travels. A clean combination of citrus, patchouli and bay leaf blend with a robust cedar wood note to suggest the spirit of rum on the high seas.
A bit about the makers.....
Lakeland Lights Company make scented natural soy candles inspired by the Lake District and Cumbria. Each scent is inspired by a particular location and has a story tied to that location. The idea came about as they struggled to find a gift for family on a recce trip before they moved to Cumbria. After moving back to the UK after 11 years overseas in January 2019, they decided to do something completely different to the office based 9-5's that they'd been used to and set up a company doing something they really enjoyed and that filled this gap they thought that they had found. They started trading in May 2019 and things really took off last year. The range of candles has grown from 3 initially to 10 in the core range.
About the candles....
All our candles are made from 100% natural so wax. We use high quality fragrance oils, not essential oils, as they meet stricter safety requirements and provide a better quality finished product - these are vegan and cruelty free - all of our candles are fully CLP compliant. They come in reusable glass jars with timber lids and are packaged in 100% recyclable kraft boxes. We offer 2 sizes of candle for each scent - one that burns for up to 30 hours and one that burns for up to 45 hours. Every candle is handmade by us here in Cumbria. Due to the success of the business, we moved into a workshop in Cleator Moor last November so that we could continue to grow our range and provide products for more retailers. On the retail side, we are working with clients ranging from large Lake District National Park Authority gift shops through to smaller independent florists as well as community based organisations who stock our range. Typically, before the lock down, we were restocking our retail partners every 1-4 weeks with varying order sizes and since lock down has eased we are starting to see the same again.
