This substantial piece has been carved into an elaborate three-dimensional scene filled with layered trees, rocky formations, buildings, architectural features and tiny details extending around the front and sides.
What makes the carving particularly special is the way the natural Labradorite has been incorporated into the design.
When viewed in ordinary light, the stone has the characteristic dark grey, green and earthy appearance of Labradorite. As the angle changes or the piece catches stronger light, sections suddenly illuminate with incredible flashes of electric blue, turquoise, aqua, green and warm golden tones.
Different areas flash independently as the carving is turned, bringing individual trees, rocks and sections of the landscape to life. Even the largely uncarved reverse displays broad areas of blue and green labradorescence, beautifully demonstrating the natural structure of the stone.
The carving is exceptionally detailed, with overlapping layers creating genuine depth rather than a simple design cut onto a flat surface. From the textured foliage to the miniature architectural features, there is something new to discover from almost every viewing angle.

Labradorite's natural flash is highly dependent upon lighting and viewing angle. Areas which appear dark or grey from one position may display vivid colour when the stone or light source is moved. Some photographs have therefore been taken in direct natural sunlight to demonstrate the labradorescence.
