A striking vintage Caithness Glass “Wavecrest” paperweight, designed by Alastair MacIntosh and handcrafted in Scotland.
Weighing approximately 610g, this substantial art glass paperweight captures the appearance of a powerful breaking wave suspended within clear and softly mauve-tinted glass.
The internal design combines rich emerald and deep sea-green glass with an extraordinary sweep of finely textured blue and white glass, creating the impression of foaming water rushing upwards through the centre.
Across the upper section, curled loops and rounded formations of green, turquoise and white glass resemble the crest of a breaking wave, while numerous controlled bubbles scattered through the clear surrounding glass add further movement and depth.
The design changes dramatically as the paperweight is turned, revealing different layers of green, turquoise, blue and white from each angle.
Wavecrest was designed by Alastair MacIntosh in 1994 and produced by Caithness Glass as an unlimited-edition design.
The polished base is engraved with Caithness Glass Scotland and a production/reference marking.
