This fascinating Carboniferous fossiliferous limestone specimen from North Wales displays a combination of ancient marine fossils and naturally formed calcite crystal growths.
Dating back approximately 320-330 million years, the limestone was deposited beneath warm tropical seas that once covered much of Britain. Over millions of years, mineral-rich fluids filled tiny cavities within the rock, creating the distinctive blocky calcite crystals visible across the surface. Subtle fossil remains can also be seen within the limestone, making this an interesting example of both fossil preservation and mineral formation.
A wonderful display piece for fossil collectors, geology enthusiasts or anyone interested in Earth's ancient history.
