An unusual Flow-Banded Rhyolite rock specimen, weighing approximately 61g, cut to reveal its intricate natural internal patterning.

This fascinating volcanic rock displays an array of fine, flowing bands in earthy shades of brown, tan, cream and dark grey. The layers twist, fold and ripple through the stone, creating wonderfully detailed patterns that resemble miniature landscapes and wood grain.

Flow banding can develop in rhyolitic volcanic rock as viscous lava moves and cools, preserving variations within the material as distinctive streaks and folded layers.

The specimen has cut faces which beautifully expose the internal structure, while areas around the edges retain a more natural, textured appearance. Each side reveals a different section of the banding, making this a particularly interesting piece to examine from different angles.
