The Calcite forms in wonderfully unusual clustered and layered formations, creating a richly textured surface with a beautiful pearly lustre. The reverse reveals an extensive mass of dark lead-grey Galena, with broad metallic faces and naturally blocky crystal structure.
The contrast between the delicate pale Calcite and the heavy silver-grey Galena makes this a particularly striking cabinet-sized specimen. It displays beautifully from the Calcite-covered side, while the reverse reveals the extraordinary geological structure supporting it.
Galena is a naturally occurring lead sulphide mineral and is exceptionally dense, which accounts for the substantial weight of this piece. Calcite is commonly found alongside Galena in mineral-rich hydrothermal deposits.
This is a completely natural specimen and includes irregular edges, mineral deposits, cleavage lines, contact areas and variations in crystal formation. Small loose fragments may occasionally occur, so please handle and move the specimen carefully.
