A fascinating natural Moroccan pseudo-stromatolite sand concretion, weighing approximately 20g.
Commonly known within the mineral and fossil trade as a “Sand Stromatolite” or “Desert Onion”, these unusual Saharan formations are more accurately regarded as natural sandstone concretions rather than true fossil stromatolites.
Despite its smaller size, this specimen has a particularly attractive concentric ring pattern, with several clearly defined circular layers surrounding a raised central formation.
Warm terracotta, sandy orange and reddish-brown tones run throughout the naturally rough, granular surface.
Details:
- Moroccan pseudo-stromatolite / sand concretion
- Common trade name: Sand Stromatolite / Desert Onion
- Natural, unpolished specimen
- Distinct concentric ring formation
- Weight: approximately 20g
- Origin: Morocco
- Exact specimen shown in the photographs
As this is a completely natural geological formation, differences in surface texture, minor fissures, loose grains and natural weathering are to be expected and form part of its character.
