A vintage full-cast spoken-word recording of William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, performed by members of the celebrated Dublin Gate Theatre company.
The production is directed by Hilton Edwards, who also performs the role of Shylock, with renowned Irish actor and theatrical designer Micheál Mac Liammóir portraying Bassanio and the Princes of Arragon and Morocco.
This approximately 50-minute adaptation preserves complete selected scenes while using narration to connect the story and introduce listeners to the play. It was recorded at Stapleton Studios in Dublin and presented for the American Spoken Arts label by Arthur Luce Klein.
