A striking vintage Murano-style art glass handbag vase, featuring vibrant aqua-blue colouring, bold dark stripe decoration and elaborate sculpted glass details.

Weighing approximately 1.81kg, this is an exceptionally substantial decorative glass piece, formed in the shape of a handbag with twin raised handles and a highly detailed faux fastening to the front.

The body contains a beautiful speckled and mottled aqua-blue glass, crossed by sweeping dark navy-black vertical bands which create a dramatic striped effect.

At the front is a large applied glass flap-style decoration, edged in dark glass and finished with a rounded black glass button detail, giving the piece the appearance of a stylised handbag closure.

The twin handles are formed from twisted pale aqua and clear glass, with open ribbon-like sections running through them. Large sculpted clear glass fittings secure the handles at either side and add further texture and sparkle.

The thick glass base and irregular hand-worked details emphasise the sculptural nature of the piece, with the colouring and pattern changing noticeably as it is viewed from different angles.

The piece was catalogued at auction as a vintage Italian Murano-style studio glass handbag. It is unmarked, so no specific Murano glasshouse or maker is attributed.
